Mummy Board

The colors used on the mummy board (figures 46b and 49) are more limited than what appears on the lid or coffin base. The sole pigments used are red, black, and yellow; white was used only for the eyes and details of the bead net covering the lower body of the figure. Ankhefenmut is shown wearing the long lappet wig of a divine being, a floral fillet around the top of his head, and a garland collar around his neck and upper body. His arms are crossed, and he wears beaded bracelets along with ones made of amuletic wedjet-eyes. On the lower half of the body is a crosshatched design, which imitates a bead net on a red background. The design echoes real nets, made of faience beads, which have been found placed over the mummy inside the coffin in some cases. The vertical and horizontal bands on the lower body match the bandages on the outside of mummies of this period.
